I tried your script in R on same dataset and seed number, but turn out the optimal k is 5 and got quite different plot shape.. Is this normal or something must be not right? But I use the exact same script as yours..thanksAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12322163168058247112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958828565254404797.post-82172025951386576752020-10-03T20:31:20.200-07:002020-10-03T20:31:20.200-07:00Hi, How to calculate similarity based on distance ...Hi, How to calculate similarity based on distance if its a categorial data. It's nothing to do with KNN. Standardisation is also required when you perform clustering because distance function is involved.Deepanshu Bhallahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09802839558125192674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958828565254404797.post-43839794427102617442019-08-21T00:59:03.137-07:002019-08-21T00:59:03.137-07:00Hi, I'm really struggling to understand why th...Hi, I'm really struggling to understand why the standardisation is necessary? If KNN is just a comparison of distances apart, then surely its expected that the variable with the larger range will have more influence on distance, why not just use the distances as they are since it is what it is. In the example, after standardization the 5th closest value changed but thats expected since the numbers have changed so how do you know its more accurate than before, and what exactly does standardisation really do that allows the variables to be more comparable? Sorry for my beginner questions, your tutorials are actually the best I've found after browsing many blogs, books and courses so thanks for this. westhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17989297719498335166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958828565254404797.post-73627582213844617802019-05-09T04:34:09.567-07:002019-05-09T04:34:09.567-07:00Well Explained.
