Microsoft announced today that it will acquire Revolution Analytics. Revolution Analytics is an open-source analytics company with a strong focus on the highly popular R programming language for statistical computing. It offers numerous tools around the R language for free but charges for services like consulting, technical support, training and big data toolkit packages. The company also offers an enterprise extension to R that allows for parallelized analytics and a cloud-based service that is available on demand through Amazon’s AWS Marketplace.
Microsoft says that it made this acquisition “to help more companies use the power of R and data science to unlock big data insights with advanced analytics.”. Check out microsoft blog.
Currently, the "R" software is being used by over 2 million users and growing. It has achieved a dominant position by public acceptance of data science and predictive analytics professionals.
